Homeopathy

'Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine first defined by Samuel Hahnemann in the 18th century.

Homeopathic practitioners contend that an ill person can be treated using a substance that can produce, in a healthy person, symptoms similar to those of the illness. '

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy treats the individual as a 'whole person', taking account of diet, circumstances, background, mood and personality as well as the presenting symptoms. It stimulates the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. Homeopathic remedies are made from natural sources such as plants and minerals which are processed in such a way to raise their healing potential. They are completely safe which means that everyone can take them (including pregnant women and babies).

Homeopathy can be used to treat any illness for which medical treatment would normally be sought. Many people use homeopathy as an alternative to conventional medical treatment and others use it to complement the treatment they receive from their G.P or consultant.

Homeopathy works on the 'law of similars' also described as 'treating like with like'. In short, this means that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can also bring about cure in a sick person. One simple analogy is the onion. In its crude form it can cause symptoms such as streaming eyes and runny nose and in its homeopathic form it is often used to treat hayfever. Similarly drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and restlessness but used homeopathically, the remedy coffea is an effective treatment for insomnia.

How can Homeopathy help you?

The experience of visiting a homeopath will be like no other you've had. They will listen intently to your story, distinguishing between the common symptoms of an illness, and what makes your experience unique. Through making those distinctions, they will find a remedy to suit you uniquely, and this in turn, may be the thing to finally clear up the problem and help you move to a healthier state of mind and of body.

Children and Homeopathy

Children tend to respond well to homeopathic treatment. Many parents bring their children for homeopathic treatment when their children fail to respond to antibiotics and other drugs or the parents do not want their children to be reliant on medication. Not only can Homeopathy be used for common physical complaints such as recurring ear infections, coughs, colds, teething but it can treat illness that causes parents far more concern such as:

  • Attention deficit disorder (ADHD), autism, asperger's syndrome.
  • Behavioral disorders - temper tantrums, fighting, screaming, crying, lack of concentration, learning difficulties, hyperactivity, night terrors, anxiety, fear, shyness.
  • Tonsillitis, sinusitis, rhinitis, laryngitis.
  • Food allergies - milk, other foods, additives, chemicals, animal hair, pollens, dust, sunlight.
  • Croup, asthma, coughs, chest infections.
  • Digestive complaints - constipation, diarrhea, colic, appetite changes, weight loss and gain.
  • Skin complaints - Eczema, psoriasis, warts, verrucas, acne.
  • Chronic enuresis (bed wetting).
  • Growing pains, growth disorders.
  • Sleep disorders - insomnia, wakefulness, nightmares, night terrors.
  • Slow development - physical and/or emotional.
  • Teething.

What benefits can be expected?

In addition to improvement with your physical and/or emotional complaints, homeopathy has further benefits:

Prevention.

By addressing the underlying causes of ill health it can help to increase your resistance to infections and pollutants and your ability to cope with stress.

Well-being.

Many people find that a successful course of homeopathic treatment also contributes to an increase in their energy and enjoyment of life.

Natural health.

Whilst homeopathy can be safely taken alongside conventional drugs, people often find that it enables them to be less dependent on these and feel more in control of their health.

Safe remedies.

Homeopathic remedies come from natural sources - plant, mineral and animal. Their preparation process eliminates the danger of toxic side effects or addiction.

"I saw Cassie after I had bronchitis which left me breathless, quick to tire and weak. The remedy really helped speed my recovery and gave me more energy to do other things, like exercise to help get me back to full health." E.M
